Quick review – “Indian Timing”
Got the new Panajbi MC album, “Indian Timing” the other day.
It is, as the kids say, pretty dope.
Granted, he doesn’t really stretch too far afield from his other works, but it’s better produced and a little more “modern”, for lack of a better word – the hip-hop aspect of it sounds like recent hip-hop instead of something from the late 90’s.
He also seems to have made a thing of sampling NBC’s Tuesday-night lineup from 1984 – on “Beware” he ganked from “Knight Rider” for the title track and “Magnum PI” for “Jugni”, now he’s got “The A-Team” for “Panjabi Soldiers.” It doesn’t work quite as well as the earlier two, but it’s still a pretty funky track. There’s a slightly heavier Bollywood influence on the album, too – a couple of showier, less bhangra tracks.
It’s a little long, too. 20 tracks – quite a difference from the shorter “Beware.” “Indian Timing” is more consistant than “Beware” in the quantity and sound of its tracks, though, which is a plus.
This probably qualifies as my favorite bhangra/desi album of the year, narrowly beating out Jazzy-B’s “Rambo.”
